Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico - Exhibitors and lecturers at PECOM 2009 Wednesday highlighted the opportunities that the annual conference presents for encouraging investment and the interchange of ideas and experiences among international companies in the oil and gas industry.
About 4000 people representing 151 registered companies gathered at Parque Tabasco in Villahermosa for the annual Petroleum Conference of Mexico, where Pemex employees mingled with contractors and suppliers.
Mario de la Cruz Sarabia, secretary of economic development for the state of Tabasco, said PECOM 2009 represents a window of opportunity for the companies in attendance as well as a chance for Tabasco to continue its growth as a business hub in spite of adversities over the past few years, including devastating floods in 2007 and the effects of a global recession.
De la Cruz Sarabia said the port city's location and infrastructure investments have helped Villahermosa and Tabasco 'remain competitive in a period of economic crisis and regional disasters.'
That infrastructure includes a thriving airport, ongoing highway improvements, universities and parks, the secretary told a luncheon gathering sponsored by Toshiba. The state is the second largest producer of hydrocarbons in Mexico and supplies the country a third of its water, de la Cruz Sarabia said.
PECOM 2009 wraps up Thursday, 19 November.
