OGX, which last week announced its 1-OGX-2A-RJS well in the Campos Basin could hold an estimated 1 to 2 billion barrels of recoverables from five reservoirs, said its 1-OGX-3-RJS well, also in the Campos Basin, has a hydrocarbon column exceeding 180m with about 50m of net pay. The operator, which holds all interest in the well, intends to carry out a formation test on the shallow water well in the next few days.
The Brazilian company announced the discovery about two weeks ago, and the well was in its final stage of drilling on 28 December when the announcement was made. Pride's Sea Explorer is drilling the well in 130m of water to about 4000m TD. The well was spud on 16 November. Hydrocarbons are located in the aptian and barremian section of the well.
'Given the excellent discoveries we made in the carbonate reservoirs of the southern part of Campos Basin, we decided to conduct a formation test in order to establish important parameters for future production projects in the region,' Paulo Mendonça, general executive officer, said.
OGX estimates two other drilling prospects -- Kilawea and Krakatoa, respectively wells 1-OGX-4-RJS in block BM-C-42 and 1-OGX-5-RJS in block BM-C-43 -- are being drilled by the Ocean Quest and Ocean Ambassador rigs and should conclude within two months.
