Offshore engineering company IHC Engineering Business (EB) opened a manufacturing and support facility at the Riverside Quay, Port of Tyne, that will serve as a central hub for EB’s manufacturing activity. The location on England’s northeast coast allows EB to receive multiple vessels of up to 10.5m draft at about 1300m of quayside.
EB, a subsidiary of Dutch company IHC Merwede, said in a release that it aims to make the Riverside Quay facility ‘an attractive winter and downtime base for vessels by offering a combination of cost effective berthing charges backed up by extensive support and engineering services.’ The company plans to upgrade the 7484km2 of covered space by installing hydraulic and electrical cleans rooms, overhead cranes and other improvements.
EB’s offshore support base manager Mick Beezer said the new digs would allow ‘commissioning, mobilisation, demobilisation and conversion activities … with EB's dedicated on-site team support.’
