Statoil awarded a contract worth NKr$130 million to Aibel for time-limited modification capacity for Gullfaks and Visund, according to an 11 March 2010 announcement. The contract has a one year duration, and work on the project is expected to begin immediately. Scope of supply covers performance of studies, participation in problem analysis, engineering, planning, purchasing, fabrication, installation, and mechanical completion. Approximately 80 Aibel personnel will assist with the project, and project management headquarters are to be located in Aibel's Bergen office.
The main Gullfaks field lies in block 34/10 in the northern part of the Norwegian North Sea, and Visund is in 34/8 and 34/7 approximately 22km north east of the Gullfaks field. The recovery factor on Gullfaks is 59%, but the goal is to increase into 62%, according to Statoil.
