Industry News - New & Expanding Business - ABB and I/O form seismic allianceABB and I/O form seismic alliance by: OilOnline Friday, March 21, 2003
ABB Offshore and Input/Output have signed an alliance agreement to jointly pursue the worldwide market for permanently deployed ocean-bottom seismic monitoring systems. According to R. Rasmus Sunde, president of ABB Offshore Systems, "This alliance combines ABB's leading expertise in designing, testing, manufacturing and commissioning subsea infrastructure with Input/Output's superior VectorSeis® seismic imaging technology."
Sunde continues, "During conventional 4D surveys, marine streamers are towed behind an acquisition vessel. 4D streamer acquisition has become well proven in provinces such as the North Sea. In contrast, permanently deployed ocean-bottom cable (OBC) networks place seismic sensors directly on the seabed. This method improves frequency content and repeatability of 4D surveys compared to streamer acquisition, and enables shear wave collection for enhanced reservoir characterization. Our mandate will be clearly focused on reducing the historically high costs of OBC acquisition while improving data quality and reliability."
