Sonsub Inc. and Fairfield Industries recently completed successful offshore sea trials of the Sonsub designed and manufactured Deployment Skid and Fairfield Industries’ Deep Z Pod seismic acquisition technology. Working offshore in the Gulf of Mexico off the HOS Innovator over a period of 8 days in May, pods were laid out utilizing Sonsub’s patent pending Deep Z Pod Deployment Skid with excellent results.
The Deep Z Pod Deployment Skid System is an under slung ROV mounted skid designed for the deployment of deepwater seismic data acquisition modules built by Fairfield Industries. The skid is designed to mount directly under the 200 Hp Innovatorâ ROV.
The Deep Z Pods are self-contained sensors, which contain a precision clock, 4C recording, and an extended battery life. They bring to the industry the capability to record nearly noise-free, full Azimuth Long Offset full wave field seismic surveys in the deep-water environment.
Once deployed the ROV transports the carousel system and the Deep Z Pods to the seafloor (both Skid and Pods are depth rated to 3,000m) for placement at pre-determined locations. The seismic data is acquired, and the Deep Z Pods are recovered back into the skid and then to the vessel where the data can be recovered.
