IHS Energy has launched a new product, U.S. 3-D Seismic Surveys, following the company’s acquisition of a database of U.S. 3-D seismic surveys from Terra Ventures, Inc. of Houston. The acquired surveys were previously marketed under the names Terrabase™ and 3-D Network™.
With the acquisition of this database of more than 3,300 U.S. onshore seismic surveys, IHS Energy can provide this new data layer alongside its well logs, well, production and pipeline data in its data access and integration platform, IHS Enerdeq™, or as shape files to import into industry-standard mapping programs.
“We can now offer U.S. oil and gas companies another critical technical information layer that will aid their workflows and decision-making – saving them time and potentially thousands of dollars by promoting immediate access to locations and detailed information for existing 3-D data,” said Scott Key, senior vice president of Strategic Marketing. “Without these surveys, it is not always readily apparent whether seismic data exists for an area, and in many cases, costly new seismic is shot when it really isn’t necessary. In addition, operators can use this data to discover new opportunities, identify potential drilling partners, gain access to data not available on the open market, or even broker their existing surveys.”
With more than 10 years of seismic history, each survey may have as many as 20 associated attributes, ranging from vintage to current owner and bin-orientation. The product is available by subscription, and updates and additional surveys will be added quarterly.
