Industry News - E&P Hotline - Advanced seismic survey begins in U.S. GulfAdvanced seismic survey begins in U.S. Gulf by: OilOnline Monday, October 01, 2001
WesternGeco's seismic vessel, the Western Pride, commenced its first Q-Marine
survey in the Gulf of Mexico. The multiclient survey will cover the Hoover,
Diana South, Rockefeller, Madison and Marshall fields. The Western Pride is
equipped with WesternGeco's exclusive Q-Marine single-sensor technology and
will deploy eight streamers each 5-miles in length. Q-Marine uses calibrated
sensors, sources and steerable streamers to deliver exceptional image quality
and repeatability. Based on the 2-D beta best of Q-Technology over the Diana
field, WesternGeco officials said they were extremely confident that the
survey will define reservoir sands, stratigraphic and structural traps and
will establish a baseline survey for future production monitoring of this
oil-rimmed gas reservoir. WesternGeco is a joint venture of Schlumberger and
Baker Hughes.
WesternGeco's other vessel to receive Q-technology, the Geco Topaz, is
completing its first full season in the North Sea. Based on Q-Marine
successes, WesternGeco plans to fit Q-Technology to other vessels in its
deepwater fleet soon.
