TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. announced the availability of 7,900 square kilometers of newly reprocessed 3D seismic data on the Louisiana shelf in the Gulf of Mexico. Following application of advanced Kirchhoff pre-stack time migration technology, TGS-NOPEC now offers a single seamless volume of 3D data including migrated gathers, corridor stacks and other AVO products.
In 2001, the Minerals Management Service announced drilling incentives on the continental shelf for hydrocarbon wells drilled deeper than 15,000 feet. In response to this announcement, TGS-NOPEC developed the Renaissance project specifically to illuminate and improve the deeper subsurface images on seismic data. To date, there are approximately 2000 wells drilled to this depth in the offshore environment. Improvements in imaging will enable explorationists to tie into producing trends that have been achieved at these depths onshore along the Gulf Coast.
