Aker Kvaerner MH is doubling the number of staff in its service department in Aberdeen to 14 as part of its response to a significant growth in activity this year.
The move brings total employee numbers at the business, part of the Aker Kvaerner group in Aberdeen, to around 35.
Aker Kvaerner MH, a drilling equipment supplier serving the global offshore oil and gas industry, offers its own engineering, procurement, fabrication and operational support.
The business says its repair and overhaul activity has also risen markedly since the start of the year, to the extent that it is having to utilise increasing areas of workshop space at Aker Kvaerner’s base at Kirkhill, Dyce,to accommodate requirements.
General Manager Michael Griffin said: “The rise in demand for our repair and overhaul services is primarily, but not solely, a reflection of increased activity offshore. In the case of our service department, it is a combination of that rise in activity and the support it is providing to our head office in Norway in terms of a number of large projects recently won there.”
The new engineering and support staff are being allocated to specific projects both in the UK and abroad.
Michael added: “We anticipate that workload levels will remain high for the foreseeable future but we’re in good shape to meet the demands that that will bring.
“The key for us is our ability to be flexible and respond, and in that context our relocation to Kirkhill last year, from our previous premises in the harbour area, was very important. It has given us the scope to absorb workloads that we would simply not have been able to address in our previous facilities.
“These are exciting times for Aker Kvaerner MH and we are confident that we are now well placed to capitalise on future opportunities that arise in our market.”
