MMS seeks comments on geophysical exploration

The Minerals Management Service is preparing a Programmatic Environmental Assessment (PEA) to evaluate potential environmental impacts of geological and geophysical exploration on the Gulf of Mexico outer continental shelf. The assessment is needed in light of advances in geological and geophysical technology, expansion of activities into deep water and improved knowledge of acoustic impacts on marine life. The PEA is in a draft stage of preparation but was made available to allow public comment prior to the document’s completion.
