Baker Energy receives fourth consecutive MMS SAFE Award

The U.S. Department of Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) New Orleans District has recognized Baker's dedication to safe and responsible operations with a fourth consecutive District Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE).

"This fourth consecutive MMS New Orleans District SAFE Award represents an incredible effort by everyone at Baker Energy, especially the employees working on offshore platforms in the New Orleans District," said Tad LeBlanc, vice president, Health Safety Environmental & Compliance. "Baker has built an exceptional safety reputation within the oil and gas industry."

Last year, MMS honored Baker Energy's commitment to safety and compliance with a second consecutive National Offshore SAFE Award. Baker received the awards in recognition of its outstanding performance while conducting oil and gas production operations on the Outer Continental Shelf of the United States of America. Baker also has received several other District SAFE Awards in the recent past, including the Houma and Lake Charles Districts for 2006, and Houma and Lafayette for 2005.

2008 marked the 25th anniversary of the SAFE Award Program, and Baker once again was named a Finalist for the National SAFE Award. "Although Baker was not honored for a third straight National Award, being named one of the four Finalists still was a major accomplishment considering the number of production contracting companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico," added LeBlanc.

"The hallmark of companies with effective safety management systems is sustained excellence," said Elmer (Bud) Danenberger, chief of offshore regulatory programs for MMS. "Consistent recognition as a SAFE Finalist demonstrates that a company is committed to protecting workers and preventing pollution, and employs management programs that translate that commitment into achievement."

In 2008, two clients for which Baker provides contract operations also received multiple District SAFE Awards, and were named Finalists for the National SAFE Award for High Activity Operators. One of these clients received the National SAFE Award.
