Baker Hughes announces April 2008 Rig Counts

Baker Hughes Incorporated announced that the international rig count for April 2008 was 1,074, up 20 from the 1,054 counted in March 2008, and up 90 from the 984 counted in April 2007. The international offshore rig count for April 2008 was 297, up 12 from the 285 counted in March 2008 and up 3 from the 294 counted in April 2007.

The US rig count for April 2008 was 1829, up 32 from the 1,797 counted in March 2008 and up 78 from the 1,751 counted in April 2007. The Canadian rig count for April 2008 was 106, down 302 from the 408 counted in March 2008 and up 5 from the 101 counted in April 2007.

The worldwide rig count for April 2008 was 3,009, down 250 from the 3,259 counted in March 2008 and up 173 from the 2,836 counted in April 2007.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
