Offshore Engineer's Conferences & Events: Offshore Energy Achievement Awards
2005 Offshore Energy Achievement Awards
Energy Industry raises its glass to winners
Innovation, engineering expertise, remarkable ingenuity and humanitarian efforts were all recognized last night as nine winners of the prestigious Offshore Energy Achievement Awards were announced at the black-tie gala awards ceremony, which benefited the Weiss Energy Hall at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
John Watson, president of Chevron; Ken Wright, President and Chief Operating Officer of PetroCom; T. Paul Bulmahn, president and chairman of ATP Oil & Gas; Paul Murray, CEO of Petrotechnics; Lt. Commander Ron Schuster and Capt. Rick Kaser of the Port of Houston, who gave the keynote address on security in the Gulf, were just a few of the attendees that came representing companies from around the world.
Anticipation had been building since the 29 finalists were announced on November 4. They were selected from a pool of more than 100 nominations from around the world. Relief finally came when winners were named in eight distinct categories including Health, Safety & Environmental, Industry Champion, Project of the Year, Emerging Innovation/Technology, Well Construction, Production/Facilities, Geoscience and newly added, Contribution to the Community, which recognized two companies for their community efforts.
According to Anneliese Kulakofsky of Halliburton who took home the individual award in the Contribution to Community category, "There's nothing better you can do than give back to your community."
During the ceremony, a check was presented to the Weiss Energy Hall Committee, which included representatives from PetroCom, Chevron, ATP Oil & Gas, and Schlumberger. Sponsorship proceeds were donated to the permanent energy hall at the Houston Museum of Natural Science to help support the long-term exploration of scientific concepts and advanced technology in the oil and gas industry.
"This is an exciting night for the offshore oil and gas industry. Industry leaders have gathered tonight to celebrate companies paving the way for future industry advancement. There are no hard feelings tonight because each participating company has played a key part in securing lasting achievements that ultimately impact everyone," said Kevin Lacy, 2005 OEAA Selection Committee Chairman and Vice President of Global Drilling and Completions for Chevron Corporation.
