Director of Operations

Summary of Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the VP/General Manager, the Director of Operations manages daily operations for the department.

 

Essential job duties include:

  • Supports, complies with, and participates in HSE Program
  • Oversees the daily operations for department projects, including:

o    Reviewing and evaluating bids

o    Leading and/or participating in job kick-offs by:

  •  Reviewing the scope of the work
  • Participating in hazard identification meetings

o    Managing the overall barge mobilization effort by verifying that the people and equipment required to do the job according to the bid are mobilized

o    Overseeing the daily production of assets as measured by the schedule of the work

o    Supervising the superintendents who manage assets

o    Forecasting asset utilization

o    Preparing budget for approval and managing approved budgets

  •  Annual Operational budgets
  • Annual Capital budget (in conjunction with equipment group leadership)

o    Supervising barge superintendents to:

  • Verify that the project is on schedule
  • Give directions on the scope of the work
  • Verify that there are adequate staffing levels
  • Verify that all personnel and operations are following company safety policies and procedures

o    Supervising the Crew Coordinator to:

  • Verify that logistics (personnel and equipment) are executed to the plan as scheduled
  • Verify that staffing levels required for the work are met

o    Creating weekly operations reports for department managers that outline:

  • Current progress
  • Future work
  • Need for additional help
  • Interfacing with other companies and departments

o    Provide direction to Project Management Leads as assigned to the Heavy Lift Business unit

  • Provide direction and feedback during tender formulation
  • Provide input on pricing during tender preparation

o    Meeting with the General Manager to discuss current operations, including:

  • Ongoing bids
  • Current work in progress
  • Project sequencing
  • Personnel issues

·       Supports and participates in the organization’s Continual Improvement Program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements by complying with Quality Policies and Procedures and meeting Quality Objectives

·       Performs other duties as assigned

 

Education, Experience and Licenses/Certifications:

·      Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience

·      Minimum experience: Five years of offshore experience; in particular, experience with derrick barges and the installation and decommissioning of platform structures

·      Desired experience: Experience managing and directing moored  or DP heavy lift vessel offshore operations; experience managing a department with over 100 employees

Knowledge and Skills:

To perform this job successfully, a Director of Operations must satisfactorily demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to:
    • Lead and manage personnel and company assets
    • Interface with managers of other departments (HR, Accounting, Legal, etc.)
    • Organize projects
    • Manage time effectively
    • Engage in contract negotiations
  • Knowledge of:
    • Engineering principles related to lifting and sea-fastening of offshore structures, facilities modules
    • Marine vessel operations

  • Sit, squat, walk, and/or bend up to ten hours per day
  • Perform various physical activities when off-site

Work Environment:

The following work environment characteristics are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of Director of Operations:

  • This job is generally performed in an indoor office
  • This job occasionally requires traveling to client offices and offshore locations to observe work in progress and to perform quarterly inspections of vessels
  • This job may require working in varying weather conditions when off-site
