Rigging Chargehand

Purpose / Role

* To Lead a team of competent rigging personnel in the safe execution of lifting activities in accordance with UK Statutory Regulations and Client/WorleyParsons Corporate HSSE procedures and specifications

Key Aims and Objectives

* To ensure all that all lifting operations are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner ensuring no detrimental impact to personnel, physical assets or the environment

Prime Responsibilities and Duties

* Implement all applicable company/project policies, working practices and procedures, ensuring at all times that all lifting activities are completed safely and efficiently and within the boundaries of the approved lifting plan and safe system of work (ISSOW)
* Accountable for Safety and implementing Our Beyond Zero Standards, Our Safety Leadership expectations and our Engagement tools
* Review all lift plans to ensure that they are appropriate for the lifting operation in hand, the correct approval and authorisation process has been followed, and that the prescribed risk controls measures are in place (when the lift involves working at height the incumbent must ensure that a rescue plan is in place and the appropriate rescue equipment is available at the location of the lift)
* Ensure that the lifting equipment selected for the lifting operation has been subjected to the required pre- use visual integrity inspection and confirm it is fit for purpose
* Ensure that all lift team members have the necessary competence for performing their roles, are aware of the procedures to be followed, and their specific responsibilities in the safe execution of the lift
* Brief all personnel involved with or affected by the performance of the lifting operation (Tool box talk).
* Monitor the performance of personnel involved in the lifting operations to ensure that adequate standards of performance are maintained
* Make allowance for any concurrent or simultaneous operations that may affect or be affected by the lift, e.g. helicopter operations, other cranes etc.
* Support the development of a suitable and competent work force capable of the safe execution of lifting operations, particularly Stage 1 & 2 trainee riggers.

* Demonstrable experience in the safe execution of lifting operations offshore (a minimum of two (2) Stage 3/4 Competence Assessments)
* Demonstrate extensive knowledge of lifting, hoisting and rigging activities required during the fabrication and HUC of offshore structures and process plant


* Demonstrable offshore experience in a supervisory role in rigging & lifting operations

* Ability to command the respect of his workforce, and develop excellent working relationships with all other department personnel as well as client management
* Ability to read and understanding specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation
* Ability to communicate and give concise and clear instructions in an efficient and effective way to his subordinates and liaise with other discipline foremen to ensure the optimum utilization of available work force and achievement of the overall objective of successful completion of the project
* A creative thinker and the desire to learn and develop within the role
* Fluent in the English language both in the spoken and the written word

Competencies - Generic

* Ability to demonstrate a high level of understanding of HSE safe working practices / procedures and their implementation
* Ability to take full responsibility for the organization, control and the safe execution of lifting operations up to the category of Non-routine - Complicated lifts
* Ability to supervise the implementation of lifting operations and ensure the efficient use of resources
* Deliver pre- job toolbox talks to ensure everyone involved in the lifting operation has a thorough understanding of their own role and responsibilities and those of other team members, the potential hazards identified for each stage of the task and the control measures put in place mitigate the hazards
* Fully conversant with the Client/WorleyParsons' procedures and requirements for the safe execution of lifting operations e.g. ISSOW, management of change control,

Competencies - Technical

* Be knowledgeable of the requirements of lifting equipment certification and the management and control of rigging loft inventories in compliance with LOLER
* Can demonstrate the ability to read/understand procedures/ specifications/drawings/etc in particular those pertaining to rigging & lifting operations.
* Can demonstrate the ability to safely deliver all rigging & lifting work scopes to the required/specified project/industry standards and in line with the project schedule
* A good working knowledge and understanding of the UK regulations (LOLER, PUWER, HSWA) and conversant with International standards and codes associated with lifting and hoisting operations and lifting equipment
* Can demonstrate the ability to read/understand procedures/ specifications/drawings/etc in particular those pertaining to rigging & lifting operations
* Carry out pre- and post-use of lifting equipment inspection to verify it is fit for purpose
