In the coming years, the electric grid will change drastically. Many grid operators realize they will need a transition from traditional business models in to the digital age, using technologies and concepts like Grid Optimization, IT/OT integration and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Telecommunication is playing a crucial role in this transformation as the enabler to interconnect systems in a fast and reliable way. DNV GL is aiming to expand its offering in that area and that's why we are looking for you!

As a Senior Consultant for DNV GL you will be working on the challenges that our energy customers are facing and around digital transformation of their OT (operational technology) solutions, specifically in the telecommunication area. You will mainly work in projects for distribution- and transmission system operators. We serve customers within our NEMEA region, which consists of countries in Benelux, Nordics, UK& Ireland, Middle East and Africa. Based on your knowledge and on methods and tools that are part of our service offering, you will deliver added value for our customers. This can consist of strategic telecom plans for grid operators, design review and quality assurance of telecom projects, network and system design, requirements analysis, specification and tender management. We will also take responsibility in business development activities to strengthen our market position.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

You will be working in a customer-facing environment, either as part of a project team or individually.

You will identify market opportunities and develop our existing services in the Dutch and International market and establish new opportunities for our company. You will responsible to analyze new business opportunities, gather market intelligence and being close to the market and our customers, you will monitor and anticipate market developments in your competence area, providing information to your line manager to enable strong resource planning and competency development of staff.

You will have a diverse role in which you will be responsible for providing our customers in the energy sector with the following types of consultancy services:


  • Roadmap studies/Strategic plans
  • Proof of concepts
  • Requirement specifications
  • Translation of high/detailed requirements into design documents
  • Development of scenarios
  • Evaluation of change requests
  • System specification and modelling
  • Supplier selection and Tendering support
  • Project Management
  • Test Management
  • QA reviews
  • Training and workshop facilitation

Position Qualifications

We're looking for a team player who has knowledge of utility telecommunication and the way DSOs and TSOs work. You should be able to develop and maintain relations and business with our customers in our region..

And also:


  • Master's degree in Telecommunication, Business IT and/or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 8 years of experience in the energy industry
  • Knowledge and experience related to Utility Telecommunication and digital transmission systems such as: SDH/PDH, IP/MPLS, MPLS-TP, VPNs, VPLS, OSPF, BGP, (stateful) firewalls, Ethernet, TCP/IP, fiber optic, microwave, two-way radio, telemetry and satellite communication
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with procurement procedures of telecommunication infrastructure
  • Able to write clear and high quality reports and commercial offers.
  • Your English language skills are strong, verbal and in writing. Dutch knowledge is preferred
  • Available to travel (inter)nationally on a regular basis (30-40%)
  • You are able to work independently, are goal-oriented and have a flexible attitude
  • Knowledge/experience with Smart grid protocols (IEC 60850-104, IEC 61850),
  • Substation automation systems, SCADA system and cybersecurity would be preferred
