Lecture sessions are minimised and hands-on tutorials are maximised throughout the course.

No previous exposure to seismic data is assumed.  

Topics to include:

Day 1- Fundamentals 

Seismic wave description, data acquisition, CMP processing, seismic velocities, post-stack migration

Computer-based tutorials on amplitude and phase, NMO correction, CMP stacking and velocity analysis

Day 2- Interpretation for structure, 2D and 3D

Tutorials on synthetic seismograms, picking reflections, time to depth conversion, structure maps

Day 3 - Refining reservoir structure and properties from 3D seismic data

Optimising the seismic wavelet, optimising the subsurface image through pre-stack time and

pre-stack depth migration, seismic attributes to refine reservoir architecture, seismic attributes including AVO to refine reservoir properties
